We can tell accusing and distracting thoughts from the enemy to be silent in the name of Jesus, and they must obey. To silence the enemy’s lies, we also must speak the truth of God’s Word aloud in order to cast down deceiving thoughts and imaginations.
Prayer goes from sacrifice to joy, from desire to discipline to delight. Your spiritual diet is also important. Meditate on the Word of God.
Faith is always accompanied by an attitude of rest. When we truly believe that God has answered us and that what we asked for is already accomplished in the Spirit, we can rest from any striving or trying to make our answer happen on our own.
When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He made provision for abundant blessing in our lives. He gave us access to the storehouses of heaven and the wisdom of God. When we pray in faith, we are not begging God to provide.
The enemy uses many tools against us to try to distract us from God’s vision for our lives. Many of us, without realizing it, have at various times been disillusioned by these lies from our enemy. We’ve given in to offense, people‐pleasing, self‐absorption, focus on the past, the easy road, the noise of the enemy, discouragement, the treasures of the world, reliance on our own works, or weariness.
Whenever God is asking us to embrace a new season, it can often feel frightening or confusing. But we do not need to be afraid, because He is always with us, always leading the way, and His plans for us are always and only good.
It’s not always easy to discern which thoughts are ours and which ones come from the devil. Here are a few tests I rely on to help me discern the source of the thoughts in my head.
Near the beginning of biblical history, we find a man known for friendship with God. We do not know much about the life of Enoch, but we do know that “after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters” (Gen. 5:22). It seems that, at the age of 65, when Enoch’s son Methuselah was born, Enoch experienced a personal revival.
I have a tendency to allow my phone to be a source of distraction. One morning I was sitting up in my bed checking every possible social media app. I read comments, made comments and liked multiple things, then it was on to reading all the latest news updates.
